Mineral Resources Development Act Review
Review of Mining Legislation
The Brumby Government is conducting a major review of the Mineral Resources (Sustainable) Development Act.
The Review is being conducted in two stages. The first is almost complete and amendments are expected to be introduced to the Victorian Parliament shortly.
Initial proposals included the removal of the Miners Right and abolition of the Office of Mining Warden. The PMAV lobbied strongly to not only retain, but improve the provisions of the Miners Right.
Again thanks to the PMAV, the Office of the Mining Warden will continue as before, but is to be subject to further review in Stage 2.
Stage 2 of the Review is currently underway but will not proceed too far prior to the State Election in November 2010. The PMAV is currently considering how the legislation can be changed to improve conditions for our members and will be discussing our ideas with the government.
